Bangladesh receive $ 2150.894 million as foreign aid in fiscal 2009-10

Dhaka, Jul 29 (UNB) – Bangladesh received US$ 2150.894 million as foreign assistance from the development partners in the 2009-10 fiscal which is the highest in the country’s history after independence.

The foreign aid commitment for the last fiscal was US$ 2949.199 million which was also the highest in the country’s history.

The 2nd highest foreign aid disbursement for the country was US$ 2061.514 million in the 2007-08 fiscal.

Of the total foreign assistance, US$ 1596.791 million came as loan while US$ 554.103 million as grants, said a source at the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

Of the total loan, Asian Development Bank provided $ 1081.923 million, World Bank $ 344.534 million, Japan $ 78.519 million, Kuwait $ 29.848 million, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) $ 25.763 million and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) $ 20.713 million.

Of the total grants, UK’s DFID provided US$ 107.459 million, European Commission $ 83.005 million, Germany $ 70.39 million, World Bank (IDA) $ 52.945 million and UN agencies $ 95.89 million.

However, the ERD official hinted that the total figure of foreign aid disbursement in last fiscal could increase further as some disbursement reports of DFID, UN agencies and WFP are yet to be listed.
