JS body suggests quick gas exploration deals
Star Online Report
A parliamentary body today recommended that the government finalise the production sharing contracts with two foreign companies on gas exploration in three offshore blocks soon.
In defence of the recommendation, the parliamentary standing committee on the power, energy and mineral resources ministry observed that delay in signing the agreements might hamper exploration and the interests of the country as well.
“India and Myanmar have already started gas exploration in their off-shore blocks, and if we delay, they might capture our gas resources using sophisticated technologies,” said committee chief Maj Gen (retd) Shubid Ali Bhuiyan.
After a meeting of the meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Bhuiyan said, “The more we delay, the more we lose resulting in a deepening crisis.”
