Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) yesterday temporarily suspended three officials for their alleged negligence to the accident of MV Coco-4 on November 27 that caused the death of more than 77 passengers at Nazirpur under Badarpur union of Lalmohon Upazila in Bhola.
The suspended officials are Md Abdur Razzak, Director (Additional Duty), Vessel Conservancy and Management, Md Shajahan, Senior Deputy Director, Vessel Conservancy and Management Section of Barisal and Md Rafiqul Islam, Senior Deputy Director of River Ports and Transport Section of Barisal.
Meanwhile, passengers who survived from the launch mishap filed a criminal case yesterday against the officials of MV Coco-4 for overloading the vessel.
Lalmohon Police Chief Jakir Hossain said the case was filed by M Faisal of Lalmohan that accuses the launch authorities for causing the deaths of passengers as the vessel was loaded about five times more than its capacity.
