Managing Change

The elections are finally behind us and the political ads are over – at least for now. President Obama has reiterated that he is an agent for change – change in how government works, change in who we are in the global experience, change in many other ways. So, what is change?

All organizations go through change. There might be a change in management, or a change in policy, change in staff, change in location, change in customers, and even change in size of the organization as in mergers and acquisitions. We even face change in our personal lives – change in marital status, change in family dynamics, relocation of family, and change in job status.

Change is all around us. It is what we do with change and how we react to change that causes the most difficulty. The issue becomes how do we manage change?

I’m not sure how President Obama will affect change in our bureaucratic society; nor how the world will react to some of the changes he has indicated he will implement. I do know he has his work cut out for him and his staff and we
