An old woman was hacked to death at Gabtala village in Morelganj upazila on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Joytunnesa, 75.

Police said Joytunnesa had a longstanding dispute with her neighbour Achhiya Begum over the ownership of a plot of land.

Acchiya and her accomplices hacked Joytunnesa indiscriminately, killing her on the spot, as the victim tried to resist them from cutting bamboos from the disputed land.

Police arrested Achhiya, 45, her daughter Parveen Begum, 25, and neighbour Shahin, 22, son of Ruhul Amin.

Police sent the body to the Bagerhat sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed.
