Section 144 imposed in Comilla

One killed in Rajshahi in police firing; half-day hartal today

DHAKA, Jan 30: One person was killed and hundreds were injured in clashes between opposition activists and police, during Monday’s countrywide mass-protest by the BNP-led four party alliance.
Shafiqul Islam Rentu, 26, an activist of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the students’ outfit of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed when police opened fire on Shibir activists in front of Rajshahi Lokenath High School.

4 killed in police firing as opposition takes to streets

DHAKA, JAN 29: At least four persons were killed and more than thousand were injured in countrywide violent clashes between the four-party activists and law enforcing agencies on Sunday during the observance of mass procession programme by the BNP-led four-party alliance.
Of the three Limon (25) and Abu Mirdha (50) were killed in Chandpur and Rubel (22) and Abul Kashem, (55) were killed in Luxmipur.

Rallies banned today: BNP demo Monday

Dhaka, Jan 28: In a sudden move, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Saturday evening imposed a ban on any kind of rally and procession in the capital and a few district towns for Sunday prompting the main opposition BNP to reschedule its much-hyped mass procession to Monday from Sunday while the ruling party postponed its rally.

Khaleda blasts ban on mass procession

BNP relies on mass movements, not army upsurge: Alamgir

DHAKA, JAN 25: Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP’s acting secretary general, said on Wednesday that his party would force the government to resign by organising mass movements instead of an army uprising.

EC search panel invites names

Dhaka, Jan 25 (bdnews24.com) — The search committee has invited the political parties that had dialogues with the president to put up their nominees for the chief and members of the new Election Commission.

The move was decided from the maiden meeting of the committee held at the Supreme Court conference room on Wednesday.

Senior information officer of the Cabinet Division Munshi Jalal Uddin in a media statement said each of those political party can propose a maximum of five names with bio-data of the nominees to the Cabinet Division secretary by 3pm on Jan 29.

ACC serves notice to Tarique’s mother-in-law

DHAKA: Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday served a notice to Iqbal Manth Banu, mother-in-law of BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, asking her to submit a wealth statement before the commission within seven days.
