Duty free furnace oil, coal import assured: Muhith : Entrepreneurs urged to invest in captive power plants

The government has taken a decision to encourage private entrepreneurs to set up more captive power plants through simplifying regulations to generate power for mitigating the ongoing demand in the country.

The move of the government appears in response to the continued power outages despite the diversion of gas from CNG stations and KAFCO Fertilizer Factory to the power generation houses.

The decision of the government came following a meeting yesterday to encourage entrepreneurs to set up coal and furnace oil based captive and commercial power plants in the country to mitigate the ongoing power crisis.

Dhaka, Aug 16 (UNB) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said the government is moving ahead with two major tasks – implementation of the Supreme Court verdict on the fifth amendment of the Constitution and build a country free from hunger and poverty.

She said the defeated and anti-liberation forces had distorted the Constitution after the assassination of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing as chief guest at a commemorative meeting at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city, organized by Awami League in observance of the national mourning day.

Rule of law absent in country: HRC

Rule of law is absolutely absent in the country, Chairman of Bangladesh National Human Rights Commission (BNHRC) Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman has said.

Addressing a cover-unveiling ceremony of research paper titled “The Judiciary: Policy Note” yesterday, the BNHRC chairman said justice was not for the poor in Bangladesh rather only for the rich as the poor were unable to purchase it.

Institute of Governance Studies (IGS) of BRAC University made the paper and arranged the function in the conference room of JATRI in the city.
