CHOLERA CALL Transparency in vaccine trail advised
Dhaka, July 19 (bdnews24.com) – The director general for health has advised the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) cholera experts to be ‘transparent’ in their vaccine trail.
Khondaker Mohammed Shefyetullah told them to ‘go forward in a transparent way’ at a dissemination seminar in ICDDR,B on Tuesday where both the government and ICDDR,B tabled estimated figures of cholera patients in Bangladesh for the first time.
The government had never reported cholera in over a decade, but an ICDDR,B vaccine trail in the capital made the government speak of cholera prevalence in the country at World Health Organisation’s (WHO) meetings.
Rules soon for quick disposal of cases: Shafique
Law Minister Shafique Ahmed on Saturday said the government will formulate rules for taking action against those found responsible for making delay in disposal of cases at the lower court.
The disposal of cases is delayed as the witnesses are not produced before the court timely and police do not submit the investigation report of the cases on due time, he said.
The minister was speaking as chief guest at an inaugural ceremony of a training course for the public prosecutors at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in the capital in the morning.

Textbook distribution begins; Education Minister inaugurates textbook distribution
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the distribution of free textbooks as chief guest in Mohammadpur Model School and College when Textbook Festival Day-2011 is being observed across the country.
State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanok was present as special guest while Education secretary Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser presided over the ceremony.

Bangladesh emerged as global outsourcing hub following its enlistment in global IT outsourcing map for the first time, which would, according to the industry insiders, give a further boost to local software export.
The recognition came as Gartner, the world’s leading IT research and consulting company, ranked the country as one of the top 30 outsourcing countries on the basis of 10 criteria.
