Higher CNG price for private vehicles

CNGs on the streets of Dhaka
The recent increase of CNG prices affects several different sectors of society. Due to the sudden increase of CNG cost, owners of public transport vehicles will definitely take the opportunity to raise the fare unlimitedly as well as unethically as we still not able to monitor this sector to implement the fare equitably. The transport sector is one of the most corrupted sectors in our country.

Government should review the price for CNG which should be limited to private vehicles only, which will discourage people from using their private cars in the street but to use public transport. It may help a little to reduce traffic jam in the city. On the other hand, ordinary people and the most of the students in the country use public transport, so government should strictly monitor the bus fares in order to reduce public suffering. Even the increase of the CNG may affect the price of all sorts of the daily commodity seriously due to the transportation cost set by dishonest businessmen in this sector.

Bangladesh Government backing ULFA Paresh Baruah faction

The Paresh Baruah faction of ULFA has declared the General Council meeting held by the Arabinda Rajkhowa and all other Central Committee memberss of the outfit as invalid and against the constitution of the organization. In a fresh press release sent by self-claimed Publicity Commander(!), ULFA of the Paresh Baruah fraction Arunodoy Dohotiya has declared three decisions taken by the Paresh Baruah led group in a meeting held on 5th February in the outfit’s underground headquarters. The first decision is that the General Council meeting held by the leaders released in bail was deemed as invalid, the second one was a decision not to support the political dialogue initiated by Arabinda Rajkhowa led fraction to hold talks with Government of India. In the third point, Dohotiya has criticized Mithinga Daimary’s declaration that Dohotiya was not authorized to be the publicity head of ULFA. Claiming that he was officially bestowed the rights of acting as the spokesperson by the outfit on 23rd September 2010, the press release declared that Dohotiya would continue to speak and publish their views to the people.

Tracing the email, Times of Assam has found evidence that the email was sent from Mirpur in Bangladesh using a Internet Service Provided by Bangladesh Telephone & Telegraph Board. This has compelled to question whether Bangladesh Government is acting just like Pakistan does with India, regarding the issue of Kashmir. On one hand when Bangladesh government could arrest and deport some ULFA leaders and their families to India, it is strange that the same authority is silent with the leaders or families of the Paresh Baruah fraction (including Paresh Baruah and Anup Chetia’s families) who are against talks with the Indian Government. With several emails of the anti-talks faction traced from Bangladesh, it is evident that the Paresh Baruah fraction is still at large in the neighboring country and enjoying enough freedom. It is clear that Bangladesh Government is only acting hypocrites here,- at one end they act Pro-India by capturing few militants and other end still continue to aid the tough ones who continues to stand against India. It’s high time, Indian authorities as well the civil societies of Assam makes a note of this.

LivingSocial is Differentiating Itself Away from Groupon

About one month ago, I blogged about Groupon. The ‘deal of the day’ and group-buying phenomenon is branching to Google, which is currently testing Google Offers. In December, Amazon invested $175 into LivingSocial, bringing it’s current platform to “rapid global expansion” (Mashable). Clearly, the ‘deal of the day’ fad isn’t just a fad. It’s proving to be a social media, email marketing, and crowd-sourcing savings powerhouse. At an average open rate of 66%, that is an effective email (screenwerk.com)!

England captain Andrew Strauss has admitted that his side needs to improve fast if they have to make any impression in the World Cup, which starts tomorrow.

England, who were thrashed 6-1 in the recent ODI series against Australia, narrowly avoided being embarrassed by Canada in their warm-up game, when they laboured to a 17-run win in Dhaka.

“We only arrived here a couple of days ago and the conditions are clearly very different to what we experienced in Australia, so the key for us is making our adjustments,” the Telegraph quoted Strauss, as saying.

Marketing Is All About Benefits… And Experience

During the last week, I had some really great conversation with fellow marketers. Whenever we see each other, we always come back to the fundamentals of marketing. What separates good marketing from bad marketing? Where are the boundaries of marketing? Where do marketing and sales need to work together and when do they work independently?

In my opinion, it’s easy to find bad marketing but a little more challenging to find good marketing. If the marketing you are doing, or would like to do for your business, can accomplish a few basic objectives, you can in fact call it “good marketing.”

1. Does your marketing speak to your audience? Does your print, email, or web communication speak to your market the way they want to be spoken to? Are you communicating based on knowledge and understanding of your audience?

One of the most important aspects of effective marketing is messaging! If you speak to your target market based on your understanding of what is important to them, their needs, and where they are in the decision making process, then you just found good marketing.

2. Does your offer resonate with your market? If you offer a buy one get one half off, does your target really care about the second item? For example, if I go to the movies by myself and the theater is offering buy one and get the second half off, this doesn’t appeal to me. However, if they give me a coupon for $1 off a medium popcorn, I may purchase something I didn’t go there intending to buy.

Always be testing and working different offers in order to find out what will resonate with your audience. Which offers do your target audience truly value?

3. Are you timing your campaigns appropriately?  If you’re emailing everyone when they are attending the industry’s national convention, your chances of a good response are very limited.  If you understand your audience (tip #1) and their schedule, you are in a much better position to have marketing success.  Sending emails to students who are away on Spring break won’t help your business – neither will sending b to b emails on a Friday afternoon.  Know the schedule of your audience if you want to do “good marketing”.

4.  Create a dialogue with your audience.  To know your audience you must interact with them on a regular basis.  If all you’re doing is pushing information out, you aren’t in tune with what your audience is thinking and doing.  The best way to create a dialogue with your audience is to ask them for feedback.  Surveys, open ended questions, and contests are a great way to get information about their thoughts and behaviors.

By creating a constant feedback loop you can improve the response to your marketing campaigns.  In addition, you can get helpful information that fine tunes your campaigns and improves response rates.

Know your audience, find a relevant offer and target your market at the right time.  With these simple steps you can improve your marketing results!
