In tears, he recalls wife, daughter’s torture in ’71
Dhaka, Jan 29 (bdnews24.com) — Giving testimony lying down on a hospital bed, the prosecution’s 23rd witness against Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee could not hold back his tears on Wednesday, remembering his long-lost wife and daughter soon after the 1971 Liberation War.
Octogenarian Madhusudan Gharami told the war crimes tribunal that Razakars, a notorious band of collaborators during the war, had attacked his house and raped his wife.
The International Crimes Tribunal has indicted the Jamaat-e-Islami executive council member on 20 counts of crimes, including murder, rape, arson and loot.
One killed in Rajshahi in police firing; half-day hartal today
DHAKA, Jan 30: One person was killed and hundreds were injured in clashes between opposition activists and police, during Monday’s countrywide mass-protest by the BNP-led four party alliance.
Shafiqul Islam Rentu, 26, an activist of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the students’ outfit of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed when police opened fire on Shibir activists in front of Rajshahi Lokenath High School.

Dhaka, Jan 30 (bdnews24.com) – Shafiqul Islam Shafique, the man who died allegedly in a clash between police and Jamaat-e-Islami workers, had been forced to go to the Jamaat procession, his brother claimed.
Police say they did not fire on the mass procession that Jamaat’s Rajshahi unit took out on Monday afternoon.
His elder brother Rafiqul Islam said Shafique was not involved in politics. “We heard that the procession was standing at a place peacefully when the clashes began. My brother died when he was running away. We heard that he was shot,” Rafique said.

DHAKA: Former Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Ghulam Azam was sent to jail Wednesday morning after he surrendered before International Crimes Tribunal in accordance with the court’s order.
Sayedee helped Pak army: witness
Dhaka, Jan 2 (bdnews24.com) — Witness Mohammad Mostofa Hawlader said on Monday Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee helped the Pakistani army target the Hindu community as they launched their brutal attack on them in Pirojpur district in 1971.
Hawlader made the comment as he was being cross-examined by defence counsels for a second day Monday before the International Crimes Tribunal.
In response to queries by Sayedee’s lawyer Mizanul Islam, Hawlader said the Pakistani military began their crackdown and unleashed arson attacks on the Hindu people in the southern district with the help of Sayedee and his supporters.
Pak's JI party says Balochistan situation as bad as Bangladesh before independence

The Jamaat-e-Islami party Balochistan’s condition is similar to that of Bangladesh prior to its independence in 1971.
It demanded “an end to the unannounced military operation and the role of the [intelligence] agencies” and urged the country’s Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the situation to restore peace in Pakistan’s troubled Balochistan province.
The party has also demanded that the country’s military leaders, including former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf be brought to book before the court for committing human rights violations in Balochistan.







DHAKA, JAN 11: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of Professor Ghulam Azam, former ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami, and ordered that the accused be sent to jail on charges of involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
