Army person held with phensidyl in Faridpur

Faridpur, Sept 6 (UNB) – An army person was arrested with along with phensidyl from a bus in Rail gate area of Madhukhali upazila here on Sunday night.

The arrested person was identified as Major Shibbir Ahmed, of East Bengal Regiment Station (Training Battalion) in Chittagong.

A patrol team of police found three bottles of phensidyl in a bag of Shibbir during their search in a Dhaka bound ‘Volvo’ bus coming from Benapole at 9:30 pm.

Later Major Shibbir was handed over to Modhukhali thana. Police filed a case in this connection.

At least eight people were killed and over 50 injured Monday in a suicide blast targeting a police station in Lakki Marwat, a town in Pakistan’s northwestern province.

A suicide bomber reportedly rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the rear wall of the police station Monday morning. There were more than 45 police officials present inside the police station at the time of the blast.

The police station, situated in a busy shopping area of the town in the North West Frontier Province, has been severely damaged. All those killed in the blast were civilians passing by the area.

The meeting between the Biman board of directors and the representatives of workers and employees union ended at the Biman headquarters.

The outcome of the meeting that was held to convey the decision of its top management over pay scale dispute could not be known immediately.

However, the workers kept confined the officials, as they are yet to get confirmation from the top management about their demand.

Earlier, the meeting started Thursday afternoon right after another meeting of the directors of Biman to review the new pay scale announced for its staff on August 28.
