Yunan Governor arrives tomorrow on 2-day visit; five MoUs to be signed

Dhaka, Aug 28 (UNB) – Governor of Yunan province of China Qin Guangrong arrives here tomorrow (Sunday) on a two-day official visit when as many as five Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed.

The MoUs to be signed are Cooperation in Agriculture, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Energy, and Educational Exchanges as well as cooperation between Sister Region of Yunan province and Chittagong Division.

Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain will hold official talks with the visiting Governor of Yunan tomorrow (Sunday) evening, which will be followed by the signing of the MoUs.

EC considering laws to prevent fraud


Dhaka, Aug 20 (bdnews24.com) – The Election Commission is considering to reform the Representation of the People’s Order aimed at preventing candidates from submitting false information, an election commissioner says.

It is also thinking of changing sections and sub-sections of the existing electoral laws including those for audit report submission of the registered political parties, monitoring of the parties central and grass-root offices and decisions over violation of conditions.

The issues were discussed at a meeting on Wednesday, but final decisions will be taken through more discussions with the political parties.

The International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday asked the authorities concerned to produce Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee before it on August 10 in connection with 1971 genocide.

The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Nizanul Huq passed the order as the prosecution on August 2 submitted the second complaint case against Sayedee, another detained Jamaat leader, for committing genocide during the Liberation War in 1971.

The crimes tribunal also fixed August 10 to hold the hearing on the petition filed by the prosecution seeking its direction to issue arrest warrant against Sayedee.

Former secretary general of the BNP Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan died of lung cancer at 12:01am on Wednesday at a hospital in the city. He was 67.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Mannan Bhuiyan was held at about 11:15am at the South Plaza of Parliament building while the second namaz-e-janaza at Baitul Mokarram around 1:40pm.

Several ministers, parliamentarians, leaders and workers of different political parties attended the janaza.
