DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested a physician from city’s Uttara area on suspicion of his alleged involvement with the banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.

Habiganj, Jan 24 (bdnews24.com) — An alleged leader of a group of robbers was killed early Tuesday during a gunfight with a patrol team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the district, said an official of the elite anti-crime force, which is accused of extra-judicial killings by local and international human rights groups.
Commander of Srimangal RAB-9 camp Kawsar Mahmud told bdnews24.com that 40-year-old Abdullah Miah died as he was caught in a ‘crossfire’ after the battalion members were attacked by a band of up to 10 suspected robbers who stopped a microbus to rob at sadar upazila.
5 Hizb ut-Tahrir members held
DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five members of Hizb ut-Tahrir from the city on Friday, a day after the army said it had foiled a coup plotted by Maj Syed Mohammad Ziaul Huq, said to have links with the banned Islamist outfit.
A RAB detective was injured during the arrests at Road-8, Sector–6 of Uttara after the Jum’a prayers, Maj Ahsan of RAB–1 told bdnews24.com.
He, however, could not immediately name the injured RAB member or the detainees.

CHUADANGA: An outlawed party leader was killed in an encounter between his cohorts and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Alamdanga of the district early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mokam, a regional leader of the outlawed party Janajudha.
Forkan missing after alleging ‘RAB torture’
Dhaka, Nov 21 (bdnews24.com)—A youth from Jhalakathi’s Indrapasha has been missing for one and a half years, since after he had narrated to journalists tortures he had allegedly faced in the custody of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The family has no clues about the whereabouts of Mohammad Forkan but suspects that the elite crime-busting unit might have a hand behind the disappearance of the 26-year-old who used to hawk on footpaths.
The law enforcers, however, have categorically denied involvement.

Pakiza Dyeing is fined Tk 3.5 mn
Dhaka, Oct 15 (bdnews24.com) – The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined Pakiza Dyeing and Printing Industries Ltd Tk 3.5 million on charges of pollution.
A DoE press statement said that a team, led by its director (monitoring and enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, conducted a raid at the factory in Savar, with the help of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel, on Saturday.
The team found that the factory’s effluent treatment plant (ETP) was out of order and it was releasing toxic liquid filth through a bypass drain in the land adjacent to the factory.
Market monitoring in Ctg from July 21
Chittagong, July 18 (bdnews24.com) — A market monitoring committee will start functioning on Tuesday to combat any unusual rise in commodity prices in the district during the holy Ramadan.
Under the committee formed by the district administration, five monitoring teams will begin working in 17 markets in the port city from July 21.
Each of the 10-member teams comprises an executive magistrate of the district administration, representatives from the wholesale and retail traders, importers, mill owners, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and media.
Additional deputy commissioner of the district Ehsan Elahi told bdnews24.com on Monday that the teams would monitor different things, including prices and adulteration.

6 ‘BGB recruiters’ arrested
Dhaka, June 18 (bdnews24.com) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six people on the charge of conning people of over Tk 10 million on the false promise of getting them jobs in the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The RAB personnel also recovered 65 fake appointment papers and Tk 11.2 million from their possession, said a press statement on Saturday.
A case was filed against five people, including a BGB member, with the New Market Police Station in the city on June 14 for collecting illegally about Tk 7.5 million from 50 people on false promises of getting them jobs in the force.

It was a bullet of the drug peddlers that claimed the life of schoolboy Shuvo Tuesday night at Pagla of Fatullah in Narayanganj, family members of Shuvo said.
Rahima Begum, mother of deceased Swadhin Ahmed Shuvo, in a case statement said a group of 10-12 local drug peddlers shot her 14-year-old son from a short distance as he screamed seeing them with firearms.
