Fresh plot by anti-liberation force: Qamrul
Dhaka, Jan 20 (bdnews24.com) – State minister for law Qamrul Islam has said that the anti-liberation forces are again conspiring against the government as they realised that they can not come to power through democratic means.
“The anti-liberation force had come to power through the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members in 1975. Later, they’d long been in power in different guises,” he said while addressing a discussion in the city on Friday.
The junior minister said they started the conspiracy again after Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, formed government in the parliamentary elections of 2008.
Abul loses communications ministry
In a major cabinet reshuffle, the government on Monday replaced embattled Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain with newly sworn in Obaidul Quader months after allegations of corruption and inefficiency dogged the “prize post”.
Abul however still remains a minister and will now head Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which was created on Sunday splitting the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology.
State Minister Yeafesh Osman got the charge of Ministry of Science and Technology, the other offshoot of Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology.

Abul Hossain moved to ICT
Dhaka, Dec 5 (bdnews24.com)—G M Quader became the new commerce minister on Monday, while his civil aviation ministry went to Faruk Khan as an official announcement was made in the morning.
Obaidul Quader got the communications ministry, Suranjit Sengupta railways and state minister Yeafesh Osman was given the charge in the newly-carved science and technology ministry.
The official announcement came after days of speculation and rumours about changes in the ministries of communications and commerce.
G M Quader, the Jatiya Party presidium member and brother of H M Ershad, will now deal with the politically sensitive issue of commodity prices and surely feel relieved to be able to stay away from chaotic world of Biman.
Administrators ‘from bureaucrats’
DHAKA: The state minister for local government on Wednesday has said that the government will select administrators for the two new parts of Dhaka City Corporation from bureaucrats, not politicians.
N-power plant deal signed with Russia
Dhaka, Nov 2: Bangladesh on Wednesday signed a landmark deal with Russia to set up the country’s first-ever nuclear power plant (NPP) in north-western Rooppur in Pabna. When fully commissioned, it will produce 2,000 MW of electricity.
The deal was inked around 11:30 a.m. at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). In the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Yeafesh Osman, state minister for science and information and communication technology, and Sergey Kirienko, director-general of the State Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia (ROSATOM), signed the agreement.
BNP demands release of Khokon
Dhaka, Nov 2 (bdnews24.com) — BNP has demanded release of its Narsingdi unit chief and central education secretary Khairul Kabir Khokon, held apparently in connection with the murder of Narsingdi mayor Lokman Hossain.
The main opposition made the demand at a press conference on Wednesday morning, hours after Khokon’s arrest.
Speaking at the press briefing, joint secretary-general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said the government was not informing them about Khokon’s whereabouts.
“Police picked up Khokon from his Khilgaon residence around 3am (on Wednesday). After that, we can’t get his whereabouts even after speaking with the state minister for home, Dhaka police commissioner and other high officials,” Rizvi said.

State Minister for Environment and Forest Hasan Mahmud has called upon the Commonwealth business leaders to invest in Bangladesh’s green energy sector to cope with the adverse impacts of climate change

Dhaka, Oct 26 (bdnews24.com) — Ruling coalition MPs have demanded legal steps against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for her stance against trial of ‘BNP-led four-party alliance leaders over the charges of crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War’.
The trial of the crimes against humanity will be held in Bangladesh, they asserted in parliament on Wednesday and urged the new generations of Bangladeshis to be watchful about the trial.
“The people of the country and the new generations have chosen the current government to try the war criminals. The country is ready for the trial,” Suranjit Sengupta, who moved the notice, said.
