Bhola and Monpura: two Island [ভোলা ও মনপুরা]

Monpura is a well known name in Bangladesh after releasing a movie as same name directed by Gias uddin selim. Actually, Monpura is one of the beautiful islands in Bangladesh.
Bhola is the biggest island in Bangladesh. It’s situated the most south parts in Bangladesh. The 20 charlands in the 350-square kilometre island on the Meghna near the Bay of Bengal are now green spots surrounded by sea, presenting a rare beauty not seen in any other southern region of the country. The main land of Bhola is created by the river Meghna’s poli. The interesting thing is a journey in the Island; Varieties of wild life with green forests are an enchanting scene never to be forgotten.
The past name of Bhola was shahbazpur. Bhola have a small island also what name is monpura under charfashion thana it’s totally full of forest under forestry. The main attractions of monpura are chitra Horin [Deer], Monkey, python & lots of various types of Birds. The greens created  by the Forest Department  about a decade ago and the natural beauty has turned coastal Monpura inland in Bhola into an attractive tourist spot. Animals were also released at same period. During winter, thousands of migratory birds visit the islands. The significantly exclusive feature of Island is one can see both sunrise and sunset from some of its locations. 
This Island has different historical importance from colonial period. About six hundred years ago, Portuguese pirates used to take shelter in the island. When they left, people from Bhola, Laxmipur and Noakhali started settling there. But the area is still not overpopulated.
This island is also play role in British India. In 1800, the rebellious salt-producers attacked the head office of the Greek businessman Demotirus in South Shahbajpur and killed his employee Paliolgas. A total of 314 salt-producers were captured at the order of District Magistrate Middleton. Being unable to resist the oppression of British salt-agents, 350 salt-producers of Monpura Island went elsewhere in 1818.

The panorama of this island can not be utilised due to lack of any government programme and assistance. There are great prospects to build tourists spots in the area. It’s 70,000 islanders are poor, struggling for existence. Though ignored by the government a tourist spot has been created under a private initiative. One Baschu Chowdhry has developed a farmhouse cum tourist resort on 161 acres of land in planned way.
Spotted deer, several hundred cows in a dairy farm, fishes in several ponds, gardens and orchards and rows of coconut trees there will attract anybody’s attention. The resort has all modern facilities.

How to go: The distance of Bhola from Dhaka by water 193 miles & by road 325 miles. Single Steamer service is available from Dhaka to Bhola. It’s about 16 hour journey from 5.00 pm to 9.ooam. 
Accommodation is very limited for the tourists in this Island. But fresh foods are good attraction for tourist. You can enjoy the taste of various kinds of fresh sea food and milk made food.

EC search panel invites names

Dhaka, Jan 25 (bdnews24.com) — The search committee has invited the political parties that had dialogues with the president to put up their nominees for the chief and members of the new Election Commission.

The move was decided from the maiden meeting of the committee held at the Supreme Court conference room on Wednesday.

Senior information officer of the Cabinet Division Munshi Jalal Uddin in a media statement said each of those political party can propose a maximum of five names with bio-data of the nominees to the Cabinet Division secretary by 3pm on Jan 29.

CHITTAGONG: Chittagong Sector Commanders’ Forum President and former lawmaker of Gono Forum M. Kafil Uddin passed away on Tuesday. He was 86.

Prez to start new EC talks

Dhaka, Dec 18 (bdnews24.com) — The president will hold dialogues on forming the new Election Commission with parties represented in parliament from Dec 22.

His press secretary A K M Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan told bdnews24.com on Sunday evening that Jatiya Party (H M Ershad) and Jatiya Shamajtantrik Dal (JSD Inu) had been invited to the first day’s dialogue.

Each party will be asked to bring 10 delegates, he said.

Seasonal pneumonia increase highlights need for more attention

The recent increase in pneumonia cases highlights the need for more focus on preventing and treating the disease said experts today at a press briefing. The change of season has prompted many hospitals to report an increase in the number of pneumonia cases and an increased demand on services.

 Secretary General of the Bangladesh Pediatric Association (BPA) Dr Mesbah Uddin gave an overview of the current situation at the Dhaka Reporters Unity.

 “Whilst it is normal to see an increase in pneumonia cases over the winter, some hospitals have been reporting a higher number of pneumonia cases than in previous years. The demand on services is very high,” he said.

SI suspended over 8-yr-old’s torture

Chittagong/Pabna, Nov 13 (bdnews24.com)—Authorities have suspended Sitakunda police sub-inspector Shahed Ali, pending investigation, for allegedly torturing his 8-year-old domestic help Romela Khatun.

Sitakunda police OC Noor Mohammad said on Sunday the suspension came following a government order after a case was recorded in line with a complaint filed with Santhia police in Pabna district the day before.

Riaz Uddin, Romela’s father, filed the case against ‘Shahed’ of Sitakunda Police Station and his wife Sweetie Begum.

All of them are residents of Nandiara in Santhia upazila of Pabna district.

40 hurt in Munshiganj clash

At least 40 people were injured including 15 by bullets in a gunfight between two groups of people in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj Wednesday morning.

The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Munshiganj General Hospital, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

The clash ensued around 9:00am between supporters of Noor Mohammad, chairman of Kathadia-Shimulia Union Parisad (UP), and Shamsuddin Miah, a member of Ward No-6 of the union, over sharing the money collected from the local cattle markets, said Kazi Daud Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station.

World Sight Day 2011: Every 5 seconds someone goes blind, needlessly

For raising public awareness of blindness and vision impairment this day will be marked by organisations and institutions in many different ways in Bangladesh. It’s a global event and it was integrated into the global program of the World Health Organization and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

 

GREANADE ATTACK Indictment deferred again

Dhaka, Sep 21 (bdnews24.com) — The indictment in the Aug21 grenade attack case against Tarique Rahman and other accused has been rescheduled to Sept 27.

The judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Shahed Nur Uddin on Wednesday made the decision after defence counsels appealed for more time, claiming again that they had not received copies of the charge sheet.

This is the second time the hearing has been deferred on the same reason. The defence lawyers had pleaded so when the court last time sat on Sep 15.

All the arrested accused were produced before the court for the hearing.

BNP chief whips RMG factory looted in Gazipur

Robbers looted cash and other valuables from the factory of Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque in Sadar upazila of Gazipur early Friday.

Police said a gang of armed bandits numbering 30/40 swooped on the factory at Bhobanipur, BG Collection Ltd, at around 3:00am.

The gang tied up the hands and legs of the security guards of the factory at gunpoint and later looted cash, fabrics, laptops and other valuables and fled the scene at around 5:00am.

Hearing the screams of the guards local people rescued them and informed police.
