The Future of Solar Energy

Even though we think of solar energy as a brand new discovery, ancient civilizations found innovative approaches to utilize solar energy. Amongst them, the Greeks, Romans and Chinese all developed methods to utilize solar warmth for their homes, which includes working with southern exposures to maximize solar heating and creating use of solar lighting.
Woman killed by miscreants in Munshiganj
A woman was chopped to death by miscreants at Kuchiyamora village in Sirajdikhan upazila in broad day light Sunday. The deceased was identified as Jahanara Begum, 38, mother of three children and wife of Shafiuddin, a Bangladesh expatriate in Kuwait.
Police said a gang of miscreants entered the house of Jahanara at around 12 noon when all the inmates went out of the house.
They took her to her bed room tactfully from kitchen when she was cutting vegetables and chopped her to death.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately.
Free 4 Munshiganj canals from grabbers: HC
The High Court (HC) Monday ordered Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Munshiganj to free the four canals of the district from grabbers. The HC also asked them to take action against them who are involved in grabbing the cannels and to submit a progress report on March 6.
An HC bench comprising AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim issued the order as six concerned had appeared before the court on Monday.
Earlier On January 19, the HC summoned Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Assistant Director of Environment Department, Munshiganj and Mayor of Mirkadim municipality to appear before it to explain why they failed to recover the canals from the grabbers.
কালিজিরা
ভীষণ উপকারী জিনিস কালিজিরা। এটাকে খাবার না বলে পথ্য বলাই ভালো। কালোজিরার বৈজ্ঞানিক নামঃ Nigella Sativa Linn.- এটি মাঝারী জাতীয় মৌসুমী গাছ, একবার ফুল ও ফল হয় । তিন-কোনা আকৃতির কালো রং এর বীজ হয় । গোলাকার ফল হয় এবং প্রতিটি ফলে ২০-২৫ টি বীজ থাকে । আয়ুর্বেদীয় , ইউনানী, কবিরাজী ও লোকজ চিকিৎসায় ব্যবহার হয়। মশলা হিসাবে ব্যাপক ব্যবহার হয়ে থাকে, এটি পাঁচ ফোড়নের একটি উপাদান।

কালিজিরার কিছু গুনাবলি :
প্রায় দুই হাজার বছরেরও বেশি সময় ধরে মানুষ খাবারের সঙ্গে ‘কালিজিরা’ গ্রহণ করে আসছে। সম্প্রতি বিজ্ঞানীরা গবেষণা করে জানতে পেরেছেন যে কালিজিরার সব গুণ লুকিয়ে আছে এর তেলে।
সাধারণত আমরা খাবারের সঙ্গে মসলা হিসেবে অথবা ভর্তা করে ভাতের সঙ্গে কালিজিরা খেয়ে থাকি। কিন্তু এভাবে আমাদের স্বাস্থ্য কালিজিরার আসল গুণাবলি থেকে বঞ্চিত হয়। তাই কালিজিরা নয়, বরং কালিজিরার তেল আমাদের শরীরের জন্য নানাভাবে উপকারী।
কালিজিরার তেলে ১০০টিরও বেশি উপযোগী উপাদান আছে। এতে আছে প্রায় ২১ শতাংশ আমিষ, ৩৮ শতাংশ শর্করা এবং ৩৫ শতাংশ ভেষজ তেল ও চর্বি। কালিজিরার অন্যতম উপাদানের মধ্যে আছে নাইজেলোন, থাইমোকিনোন ও স্থায়ী তেল। এতে আরও আছে আমিষ, শর্করা ও প্রয়োজনীয় ফ্যাটি এসিডসহ নানা উপাদান। পাশাপাশি কালিজিরার তেলে আছে লিনোলিক এসিড, অলিক এসিড, ক্যালসিয়াম, পটাশিয়াম, আয়রন, জিংক, ম্যাগনেশিয়াম, সেলেনিয়াম, ভিটামিন-এ, ভিটামিন-বি, ভিটামিন-বি২, নিয়াসিন ও ভিটামিন-সি।
শরীরের রোগ প্রতিরোধে কালিজিরার মতো এত সহজে এত কার্যকর আর কোনো প্রাকৃতিক উপাদান আছে বলে জানা যায়নি। কালিজিরার তেলের উপকার শরীরের রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি, ইনসুলিন রোধ হ্রাস (এভাবে ডায়াবেটিস কমিয়ে রাখা), কাশি ও হাঁপানির উপশম, স্মৃতিশক্তি বৃদ্ধি, হৃজ্জনিত সমস্যার আশঙ্কা হ্রাস, চুল পড়া হ্রাস, ত্বকের সুস্বাস্থ্য, মায়ের দুধের পরিমাণ বৃদ্ধি, আর্থÛাইটিস ও মাংসপেশির ব্যথা কমাতে কালিজিরার তেল উপযোগী। কালিজিরার তেল গর্ভাবস্থায় গ্রহণ করতে হয় না। জ্বর, কফ, গায়ের ব্যথা দূর করার জন্য কালিজিরা যথেষ্ট উপকারী বন্ধু। এতে রয়েছে ক্ষুধা বাড়ানোর উপাদান। পেটের যাবতীয় রোগ-জীবাণু ও গ্যাস দূর করে ক্ষুধা বাড়ায়। যাঁরা মোটা হতে চান, তাঁদের জন্য কালিজিরা যথাযোগ্য পথ্য। আবার যাঁদের শরীরে পানি জমে হাত-পা ফুলে যাওয়ার সমস্যা রয়েছে, তাঁদের পানি জমতে বাধা দেয়। কালিজিরা শরীরের জন্য খুব জরুরি। সন্তান প্রসবের পর কাঁচা কালিজিরা পিষে খেলে শিশু দুধ খেতে পাবে বেশি পরিমাণে। কালিজিরায় রয়েছে অ্যান্টিমাইক্রোরিয়াল এজেন্ট, অর্থাৎ শরীরের রোগ-জীবাণু ধ্বংসকারী উপাদান। এই উপাদানের জন্য শরীরে সহজে ঘা, ফোড়া, সংক্রামক রোগ (ছোঁয়াচে রোগ) হয় না। আমাদের মেধার বিকাশের জন্য কাজ করে দ্বিগুণ হারে। কালিজিরা নিজেই একটি অ্যান্টিবায়োটিক বা অ্যান্টিসেপটিক। দাঁতে ব্যথা হলে কুসুম গরম পানিতে কালিজিরা দিয়ে কুলি করলে ব্যথা কমে; জিহ্বা, তালু, দাঁতের মাড়ির জীবাণু মরে। খুব বেশি কালিজিরা খেলে হিতে বিপরীত হবে। আর যাঁরা কালিজিরা হজম করতে পারেন না, তাঁরা খাবেন না। কালিজিরা কৃমি দূর করার জন্য কাজ করে। তারুণ্য ধরে রাখে দীর্ঘকাল। আমাদের কাজ করার শক্তিকে দ্বিগুণ বাড়িয়ে দেয়।
Pardon for Kuwaiti death row inmates
The family of ‘Mohidul’, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Kuwait murdered by three fellow Bangladeshi émigrés, has agreed to pardon the convicts in exchange for Tk 2.1 million. The families of the deceased and the accused reached an agreement at a meeting in the office of Manikganj’s Singair Upazila Nirbahee Officer (UNO) on Thursday, additional deputy commissioner of Munshiganj Golam Sarwar told bdnews24.com on Friday.
The move is likely to stop the Kuwait court, which had sentenced the trio to death, with a rider that they would be spared only if the victim’s family pardoned them.
Power Div moves for five more fuel-fired plants
The Power Division has again moved proposals to the Cabinet Purchase Committee, seeking approval for setting up five liquid fuel-fired power plants, officials said. All the plants will be set up in the private sector under a 15-year contract. Those are a 50MW plant at Kamlaghat in Munshiganj, a 50MW plant at Dowlatpur in Nawabganj, a 50MW plant at Fordnagar in Manikganj, a 50MW at Bhairab and a 50MW plant in Satkhira. The five proposals are likely to be placed in the next cabinet purchase body meeting, scheduled for January 29. “The government will purchase electricity from the private firm-sponsored plants for the next 15 years,” said an official.
Largest shipyard in Munshiganj to open in March
Khan Brothers Shipbuilding Ltd (KBSL) built country’s largest shipyard at the cost of Tk 100 crore which is sure to give a fillip to the growing shipbuilding industry in the country. Located on the bank of the Meghna in Hosendi union of Gazaria upazilla in Munshiganj district, the shipyard stretching on 300 bighas of land is equipped with world standard facilities.
“It’s the largest shipyard in Bangladesh . all kind of facilities required for a shipyard of global standard have been set in it,” Tofayel Kabir Khan, managing director of KBSL, told BSS today. The KBSL joined the shipbuilding industry in March 2010 with an initial investment of Tk 100 crore.
